Australian Deaf Pilgrims Group going to World Youth Day 2011, Madrid!

Hayley Pickup, Emily Barber, Christian (CJ) Hill, Dylan Hill, Siobhan Kelly, Danni Wright (Group Leader), and Anabelle (Belle) Beasley are all very excited to be attending World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, Spain!

At the end of 2010, we have 14 in our group, including 2 Group Leaders, both Deaf & 3 Professional Auslan Interpreters, experienced in conference interpreting & interpreting overseas. Our Deaf Youths are very excited about this opportunity & are working hard, fundraising for this event.

We will leave Sydney around the 8th August & return home around the 24th August 2011. We will be doing the Spirit of St Francis (Italian) tour before WYD11 week in Madrid, joining with the International Deaf Pilgrims!! Many activities during WYD11 week will be with the International Deaf Pilgrims & fully accessible! Please see below for the International Deaf Information brochure.

We would like to invite YOU to join the Australian Deaf Pilgrims Group & experience World Youth Day 2011, Madrid, with these Deaf Youths & use the resources (Interpreters & Group Leaders) we have.

What do you need to join the Group?

• $5600 plus pocket money
• Passport valid until after February 2012
• Flight to Sydney (we can help you arrange this.)

If you don’t have the money, but are very keen to go, please let us know. We can support you by writing to your diocese (area) Bishop (e.g. the Bishop of Townsville) to ask them to support you in going.

We are working closely with the head of Harvest (the tour company organising all the Australian World Youth Day Pilgrims) and the head of our national World Youth Day committee representatives. They are very keen to ensure the Australian Deaf Pilgrim Group does attend World Youth Day!

We also have the full support of Bishop Julian Porteous (of the Sydney Diocese) and are confident we will have the support from other Bishops too.
